Dear Haha,

First, and I hate to do this, but you should be using the word "you're," not "your." You're means you are.

Second, Franklin does not do drugs. Your (this is a proper use of this word) assumption that because he is homeless he's a drug addict is offensive. There are many social justice programs I can recommend in order for you to safely develop a greater understanding of homeless life.

Finally, Franklin is a friend in some ways. He would not rob me. There was an observation period I underwent for a long while before actually stopping to communicate with him. Also, there is an adage that says, "don't bite the hand that feeds you." I have wealthy friends from Connecticut that I was raised with who are more likely to rob me than Franklin, because their understanding of money is a more complex one than his. Homeless people interest me. I run a risk in all of the observation and communication with them. However, they are people as well. If fear over losing a wallet or an iPod would stop you from communicating with someone you might be safely and squarely close minded.

Joseph Campbell says, "follow your bliss." If ignorance is your bliss, so be it.

As ever,
Dodger.

I grew up in the same house my mom grew up in with her five brother and sisters. And so our backyard was built for children, complete with a huge tree, a pet semetary a large play house and a tree house. (The tree house was never really used and frankly was quite dangerous. I;m glad my Mom stopped me)

Despite my backyard being a child's paradise and the envy of all the neighborhood kids, my sister and I didn't really like to play there. I think we felt the territory had been marked and was "someone elses." We played in the crawlspace under the house. It was filthy and had nests of spiders with gigantic cobwebs. We even found a racoon down there once. But, it was ours and I guess thats what matters.

One of those experiences you've mentioned was my first with her -- one of the greatest and most joyous nights of my life, for certain. My heart hurts.
